About UsThe City of Brisbane Pistol Club was founded in 1958. It has excellent facilities with disabled access, plenty of parking and a well appointed club house where food, drinks and lively conversation can be had. The club benefited greatly from the upgrades that occurred in 1982 to allow us to host the Pistol events for the Commonwealth Games. A lot of hard work from members allows us to enjoy what we have today. Pistol shooting is an exciting and challenging sport. It is a sport that although not particularly physically demanding it provides a never ending inner battle to improve ones technique, timing, and if competing, the nerves. Pistol shooting has the potential to take enthusiasts to State, National, International and Olympic competition should you have the desire and passion to succeed. The fellowship that comes with belonging to a pistol club is just as important to participants as is the sport itself. Pistol shooting is ideal for all age groups and especially shift workers and people with physical disabilities. Facilities include:
All ranges have lighting facilities that allow for night matches, which are very popular with our members. Affiliation: We are affiliated with The Queensland Amateur Pistol Shooting Association (Q.A.P.S.A.) and Pistol Australia (P.A.) This allows our members to shoot at competitions throughout Australia at affiliated clubs. Quarterly magazines/bulletins from COB, QAPSA and Pistol Australia are part of your membership entitlements. Members are encouraged to further their shooting knowledge by becoming range officers, judges, referees and for the more experienced, qualified coaches. As we are a not for profit sporting club the only paid employment is for a caretaker and secretary (part-time). All other duties such as general management, provisions, organising and running Opens, maintenance and upgrade of facilities, training and coaching of members is done or delegated by committee members. Being on committee is definitely a labour of love, but very fulfilling. All members are encouraged to nominate for positions on the committee. Our Club not only has the largest membership in Brisbane but also the most comprehensive facilities and as such they are used for training purposes of interested groups such as the police for training of cadets, State team training camps, and were used by overseas teams in preparation for the 2000 Olympic games. As you can see the City of Brisbane Pistol Club is a very active organisation and as with any sporting club the level to which you wish to become involved is entirely up to you.
