Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How do I become a member of The City of Brisbane Pistol Club ?
A. Please refer to the Joining CoBPC page on this website for more detailed information.

Q. Do I have to buy a firearm if I join?
A. No. We have an extensive armory that all members can use indefinitely at no charge. The only restrictions are that access to the armory is only on match days and evenings (Saturday & Tuesday).

Q. What does it cost to join?
A. The annual "pro rata" subscription is approx $310.20, plus a Working Bee levy of $60.00. The WB Levy can be reduced for the following year by attending Working Bees and other scheduled events throughout the year. For new members, the subscription varies depending on when you join as you only pay up to the end of the current financial year. Reduced fees for spouse and juniors encourage family participation. There are also reduced fees for full time students and members of other affiliated pistol clubs wishing to join as country member. There are no ongoing costs such as range fees, pistol hire or targets.

Q. How safe is pistol shooting?
A. Safety is our first concern, whether you are a new member or an experienced shooter. Our safety procedures and training are first rate. There have been no reported injuries related to firearm use on our ranges since the club opened in 1958. Pistol shooting is a sport that is free from long term stress injuries that are characteristic of so many of today's mainstream sports. Active participation is possible at a high level, well past retirement age. All our ranges comply with the Firearms Act legislation and are inspected by the Police Firearms Licensing branch.

Q. Do I only have to shoot pistols?
A. No, the club is also licensed for rifle and shot gun, however you will still need to complete our Firearms Safety Course and satisfy the Club Captain that you are safe with Rifle and/or Shot Gun before participating in club matches.
